Jambojet on Wednesday announced the addition of one new aircraft to its growing fleet, bringing its total number of aircraft to eight. According to the Company, the aircraft, christened Kozi, will address the surging demand in air travel, a testament to the recovery in the sector, post Covid-19 pandemic.

The aircraft, tail number 5Y-JXL, underwent maintenance, inspections, acceptance tests and registration in Calgary, Canada before the ferry flight took off on 29th July 2023 from Calgary International Airport. Kozi flew 14,650 KM, making several technical or night stops in Thunder Bay, Goose Bay, Keflavik, Exeter, Malta, Marsa Allam, and Addis Ababa, landing in Nairobi on 2nd August 2023.

Jambojet CEO Mr Karanja Ndegwa expressed the Company's excitement saying the new aircraft is a show of commitment to customer safety. "We are thrilled to welcome Kozi to our fleet, which will ensure we address the growing market needs, allowing us to add frequencies in some of our destinations. This is a show of our commitment to providing safe, affordable, reliable experience, with convenient schedules and exceptional customer service," he said.

The De Havilland Canada Dash 8 Q400 NextGen is a 78 to 82-seater aircraft is said to be the most advanced aircraft in the turboprop category, with jet-like features. Designed for regional operations, the Dash 8-Q400 is a large, fast, quiet and fuel-efficient aircraft. It provides an ideal balance of passenger comfort and operating economics with a reduced environmental footprint, enabling Jambojet to maintain competitive ticket prices, making air travel accessible to many.

"In 2022, Jambojet flew over 1 million passengers, and have a target to fly 1.2 million passengers in 2023. At the end of June, we had flown close to 600 thousand passengers, indicating we are well on our way to surpass the target. We couldn’t have achieved this without our guests who choose us over and over again, so we say thank you," Mr Ndegwa added.

The Global Disability Summit is set to take place on 24th July 20, 2018 at the Olympic Park in London. The event, which will be covered by Chams Media, your authoritative independent media production Company seeks to address the myriad of challenges that persons with disability face across the world.  The Summit also seeks to create awareness on disability cases in the world and encourage stakeholders to identify gaps in the sector.

On Thursday, we reviewed the Global Disability Summit on KTN News and will be co-hosted by Kenya for the first time. A delegation of Kenyan Cabinet Secretaries has also been dispatched to the one-day event as Kenya seeks more recognition and support for the 6.5 million persons with disability in the country.

In the preview, Alex Chamwada delved into the details of the Summit, revealing the gaps and challenges faced by persons with disability in Kenya.  This event is organized by the Henry Wanyoike Foundation whose founder is Kenyan runner Henry Wanyoike who has excelled in various races.

Kenyan team to attend the summit

Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection Ukur Yatani leads the Kenyan delegation to the summit and says it is a testimony of the bondage between Kenya and the United Kingdom.

“Historically, we share so much and we are grateful to share the same platform and address the world from one platform. It will cover significant areas on addressing stigma and discrimination, economic empowerment and education inclusion,” Yatani said.

The Cabinet Secretary for Transport Infrastructure, Urban Development and Housing James Macharia whose ministry is crucial to disability inclusion is also among the delegation. It is estimated that Kenya has a total of 6.5 million persons with disability need proper infrastructural development.

Henry Rotich, the Cabinet Secretary in charge of the Treasury will also attend the summit as it aims to address the gaps in disability inclusion and government’s commitment to the same in terms of finances.

What persons with disability say

Over 6.5 million Kenyans live with a disability and the summit aims to create self-assessment regarding the commitment to disability inclusion. The Global Disability Summit will also offer stakeholders opportunities to share success stories and to celebrate persons with disability who have made accomplishments in various fields.

Henry Wanyoike whose foundation will organize the Summit says it is important to emulate other countries’ approach to helping persons with disability.

“I thought it is good we start something similar to what I have done in other countries and to show people in my area that they can also make it,” he said.

As the Global Disability Summit seek to address the gaps and challenges in the sector, persons with disability in Kenyan learning institution face numerous challenges. Alice Wairimu, a person with disability at Uthiru High School Nairobi, says the going is not smooth.

“There is this time I went to get enrolled to a school enrollment at a school but they could not enroll me because of my height. That for me was a bit disappointing but I had to understand because discrimination still exists,” she said.

Adding that, “In most places you find chairs that are high and if I’m not able to get on top and someone helps me to get on top, my legs are still hanging.”

Alice’s challenges are just part of what the Global Disability Summit in London will address.

CHAMS Media founder, Alex Chamwada was among the Kenyans feted at the Kenya USA Diaspora Sacco pre-AGM networking dinner in Seattle City, Washington State, USA. The AGM, which took place on Saturday the 23rd of June 2018, was graced by Commissioner for Cooperatives Mary Mungai among other guests.

There are a total of 17 active diaspora SACCOS. The Kenya USA Diaspora Sacco was the first one to be registered in 2012.

Kenyans in the diaspora have a huge impact back home not just through remittances but also through the ideas and developments that they are implementing back in Kenya.

The national government holds the diaspora community in high regard thanks to their excellent remittance schemes.

The stage is set for this year’s Nelson Mandela Lecture. The 2018 lecture will be the 16th version of the event that brings together various dignitaries and South Africans in celebrating Africa’s most decorated leader.

The event, which is to be held in Wanderes Stadium in Johannesburg will bring close to 9,000 people together to address issues affecting South Africa, Africa, and the world.

The theme for this year’s commemoration is Renewing the Mandela Legacy and Promoting Active Citizenship in A Changing World.

The main speaker will be the 44th US President Barack Obama who made a stopover in Kenya for the inauguration of Sauti Kuu Foundation started by her sister Auma Obama in their home town of Kogello, Siaya County.

Nelson Mandela would have turned 100 years on 18th July had he been alive.

The Nairobi river basin comprises Ngong river, Mathare river, and Nairobi river. The three join east of the city beyond which the three rivers join the Athi River eventually flowing into Tana River, which further flows into the Indian ocean.
