NAIROBI -The Kenya National Amputee Football team is calling for sponsorship from entities inspired by the spirit shown by sports persons with disability.

The team which is set to represent Kenya at the 2018 World Cup that begins on October 24th to November 5th in Mexico, earlier this month received sports gear including soccer uniforms and balls from the Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Co-operatives Limited (KUSCCO).

The team will battle against 24 countries worldwide, with four teams drawn from Africa that is Liberia, Ghana, Kenya and Angola.
Kenya Amputee Football team has in the past been faced with a lot of challenges in terms of support towards their progress.

The team has struggled to make a name in both the national and global field including a dismal performance in the 2014 World Cup in Mexico where they finished 17th.

Kuscco Managing Direct George Ototo said as part of the Company’s corporate social responsibility, they chose to support the Amputee Football team to motivate them towards achieving their goals at the World Cup.

In their preparations for tournaments, the team grapples with lack of enough quality crutches, balls and boots. Kenya Amputee Football Federation president Charity Njoki has called for more sponsors to come on board and support the team.

"We call on the government and well wishers to come on board and support the team ahead of the World Cup," she told Chams Media.

In 2011, the Kenya Amputee Football team failed to show up for the World Cup in Ghana owing to financial constraints. But the emergence of corporate sponsors could bring a new feeling in the camp.

Chams Media will be a partner to the team at the tournament.
